HIFA is very pleased to announce that with the generous assistance of the British Embassy, HIFA’s Main Stage will this year resonate with the glorious a capella sounds of Britain’s melodious Magnets. This energetic, fun loving London-based a cappella group are busy taking not just home turf, but the entire world by storm, with their vibrant, perfectly presented shows that showcase a vast range of offerings. There is something for everyone at a Magnets concert; this lively group of young men are infectiously joyful crowd pleasers – and all they employ are their stunning voices and their engaging stage presence, as they skilfully fuse their glorious vocal harmonies with jaw dropping beat-boxing. In doing so, they succeed in creating a sound as rich as any band with instruments – yet these sounds emanate from the mouth alone.
They have already toured Austria, Belgium, the Cayman Islands, Hungary, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, The Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Singapore, Switzerland, and now, with their HIFA debut, they will reach the great African continent.
The Magnets can bring to iconic songs purely vocal remix, whilst packing their shows with virtuoso musical polish and really clever choreography. Throw in suitable levels of audience participation and their absolute charm and they tend to have their audiences shouting for more – and more.
“A cappella singing straight from the Gods,” said the Edinburgh Evening News, “Slick, entertaining, with infectious groove,” Time Out magazine agrees.
Their recent UK Shows have included such prestige stages as the Scottish Royal Variety Show, the Glastonbury Festival, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Isle of Wight Festival, the Belfast International Festival, and the Royal Festival Hall. They have also performed in several TV and radio shows including Parkinson, BBC Proms in the Park, MTV, and The Generation Game.
They have sung at Buckingham Palace for the Queen’s Jubilee, have won a string of Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards, and released their third great recording entitled Under The Covers in 2009, producing what they like to call, simply great music, made simply with the mouth. Evidently, you just can’t miss this great HIFA show, presented with the kind assistance of the British Embassy – another fine example of the cultural exchange that is pivotal to this Festival and its enlightened investors from the diplomatic and business communities.
