AND HERE I AM

6 May 2018

In Shona there is a saying that goes as , “kura uwone” which translates to “grow up and see”. That is the only way to describe the life journey of a young adolescent who turns into a man in this theatre of life. The one-man show is captivating, rich and incredibly deep. Although set in the first and second Palestinian intifada, the themes explored; of struggle, unemployment, usefulness and identity resonated with the diverse audience in attendance. Ahmed Tobasi’s performance is genuine, raw, uncensored and heartfelt. The production balanced music, movement, comedy and thought-provoking dialogue to bring out a phenomenal production. A struggle or revolution can be waged with an AK47, a pen, theatre or whatever you have in you in pursuit of the true meaning of freedom. The standing ovation was well-deserved as Ahmed Tobasi is a truly talented performer.
