This famed South African Afro-fusion band return (finally!) for our

closing concert on ZOL Main Stage this year. Formed in Cape Town

in 2002, their music style blends elements of traditional South

African music (such as kwela and African folk music), blues, jazz,

and features of indie rock and their lyrics skip between just as many

Freshlyground became the first South African musical act to receive

honours from MTV, when they received the MTV Europe Music Award

for Best African Act in Copenhagen in 2006. They are best known

for their performance “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” with

Colombian singer Shakira, which received worldwide recognition.

The music video - featuring the group - also received over 1.70 billion

views on YouTube.

Join us for this closing fireworks concert, celebrating our collective

perseverance, resilience and joy and communicating to the rest of the

world and to ourselves that WE ALL COUNT!
